Bleh.

After the “awesome battle we are sure to be telling our grandchildren about” at the other inn, we proceeded to wipe out the cultists. that was somehow cathartic. and fun. yes.

There, we rescued a little dwarven girl by killing her guardian. MY little dwarven girl now. /grin
we also got a bounty book as part of our reward. and we found the face of that thief who kept staring at us at their bar the other day. how wonderful!

so we went to pay him a little visit, and helped him clean his bar up. with swords and knives. and axes. and blood. that reminds me. we’ll have to get draug something else to swing one day. greatswords are good and all, but they dont clean the little corners well.

the dwarven girl has taken to the new bar. probably because most dwarves seem to love alchohol. or maybe the creature somehow feeds off the social interaction with the rest… Bleh.

anyway, theres a lot to do around here and i’ve written what i was supposed to. good riddance.

The Good, the Bad, and the Gender Confused
(Saturday)

When we last left our heroes, Danor and Wyran had just busted a small portion of their party from jail for Vigilantism. When threat after threat fell on his deaf ears, Danor was able to diplomatically resolve the situation, thus ensuring future relations, and rewards, from the authorities within the city of Phlan.

(Queue Theme Song and Opening Titles)

Upon receiving payment for taking out the cultists and the additional gold, handed to them very begrudgingly by the wonderful and ever so friendly Lt. Alaban Gorrin , collected from the thieves, we meet up with our heroes once again in Broken Phlan at the site of the newly re-opened Danderly’s Dairy and Alehouse to discuss the job “offer” from Lt. Gorrin to investigate news of Barbarian tribes overtaking the nearby Dwarf Fortress.

Given three days to prepare and hire employees to keep watch over Danderly’s while on assignment the party takes to renovations and stockpiling before setting off early.

The road to the Dwarven Fortress seems pretty uneventful other than a mysterious blockade just outside of the city, false rumors of a plague, and a murder mystery involving missing children, their dead parents, a pub, an attractive woman on a quest for treasure, an old woman who happens to be a man dressed as an old woman living in the basement of a pub making puppets from said missing children he/she/it has been keeping behind a secret door which is so well hidden only a Barbarian such as Draug is able to find it.

In the end, the party saves the day and offers the town mayor an opportunity to franchise as Danderly’s hopes to expand outside of Phlan.

Needless to say the heartbroken community turns the offer down, and all but runs our heroes out of town, without so much as a thank you. At least Cee was able to save some skull shaped souvenirs from the debacle.

It was not a complete loss however, as Dourif finds the love of his life…again, and one possible merchant contact is made, although a couple of our heroes find it sensible to break into the man’s home, steal his gold along with some opened mail he had lying around before setting out on the road again with a new temporary party member/Dourif’s girlfriend. ;-)

With the information given to them by Dourif’s new lady love, the party enters the Dwarven Fortress from the rear where, after making their way through the cavernous tunnels, come upon the sound of banging rocks and a shit load of dwarves chained together banging on those rocks. The party takes no time in deciphering that the dwarves banging on the rocks was in fact what was causing the sound of banging rocks to echo through the caves.

In order to free the dwarven prisoners, who look like they haven’t eaten or had a sip of ale in weeks, the party must first defeat a large shirtless crew of axe wielding barbarians and their Longbow Brand Javelin™ tossing orc companions, who apparently are so good at hurling javelins that the slight in height, yet brawny in stature, Fred Danderly himself nearly meets his end by not one, but six Longbow Brand Javelins™.

However after clearing out a few of the less than hearty barbarians the party recovers and cleans up the cavern, freeing the dwarves, before skulking back into the caves to rest up for Round 2 with the barbarian horde.

How will the party fair in the inevitable battle to liberate the dwarves and acquire the treasure hunted by Ms. Saffron Dourif? Tune in next week for the continuing adventures of …

Once Upon a Time in the Dwarven Fortress
Murder, Death, and Robbery! (Saturday)

When we last left our “heroes” they had just rescued an ale deprived crew of dwarves forced to mine in their own basement, under the rule of their new barbarian masters. The party has rested and regained some strength after a very near death experience during their first encounter with their foes.

Staggering back into the caves the party follows down their previous path to find a phalanx of barbarian warriors staring them down. At this point it is quite obvious the barbarians are content with watching sweaty shirtless dwarven men bang on rock after rock, but that is their prerogative and who are we to judge? Apparently the party is judge…and jury..and executioner as they lay waste to the crumbling brick-wall of barbarians before them.

With the barbarians watchdogs either dead or subjugated, the party is surprised to discover their old buddy Kastel and two newly recruited allies, who had apparently decided knocking on the Barbarians front door and asking for sugar was a good idea, chained up along side the malnourished, dwarves. Confused, and most likely a little embarrassed, the reunited group swaps stories on the whos whats and whys that brought them back together.

Reconvened the party sets to interrogating the once captors now captive barbarians for what may lie ahead. However, with the whole of the party distracted Danor gives a nod to Draug initiating their own agenda as they attempt to subdue Saffron, the lovely woman who lead them through the back end of the fortress and also Douriff’s dungeon lady of the week.

The plan quickly backfires as the two misfits gravely misinterpreted the parties willingness to take the treasure all for themselves and leave the outsider to die alongside the barbarians. Perhaps it would have gone more smoothly had Draug and Danor mentioned it beforehand…

Nevertheless Saffron manages to duck the Goliath’s sweeping sword and make off into the tunnels, with Draug giving chase. Douriff, at a lose for words over what all to blatantly appears to be the attempted murder of the love of his life, fires a crossbow bolt over the head of Draug as the two disappear into the darkness of the tunnels.

Confused and broken from the direction the adventure has taken the party is split with some in pursuit and others nothing short of astonished. Saffron gains her footing and manages to recruit a patrolling band of barbarians from deep within the fortress catacombs, however she meets her end as a bolt of energy strikes her from behind.

With an inevitable battle on the horizon, Kastell, astonished by the murderous actions of his “friends” decides to stay behind, while the majority of the party engages in a struggle which nearly breaks them once and for all.

As a wave of barbarians comes crashing down, Taerin rushes forward calling the name of Corellon to add strength to his vigor. Those who choose to fight for their lives follow close behind while the barbarians swarm the party bringing pain and death along with them. Wyran does his best to gain the enemies focus but it is not enough as Taerin is trampled beneath the rampaging force of steel.

The party, now brutally beaten hangs on as Draug and Danderly fight their way outside opposite ends of the barbarian legion to gain some semblance of resistance. Their new ally, a warforged with mysterious power, is able to assist Draug as they begin to thin the herd. Standing over Taerin’s body, Wyran and Danor hold fast within the eye of the storm, fighting tooth and claw hoping their actions will bolster the party’s confidence.

The groups confidence renewed, the barbarians begin to fall and the fight seems well in hand. Just then an all too familiar javelin strikes Danderly with an all too familiar blow, and he crumbles to the floor. The party rushes forward to avenge Danderly, bringing death to the orc javelin masters, thus putting down the last remaining barbarians before them. Late to the party, but fresh with flare and bravado, Street arrives to proclaim victory with his makeshift army of starved dwarven prisoners.

Although the battle was won, the party is utterly defeated. Hatred and regret flows through the party as they round up the rescued dwarves and recuperate from their physical wounds. Deciding it best to finish the job at hand, everyone agrees to deal with the matter after thinking it over with a long restless sleep.

When they awaken the party finds themselves lighter in coin and Douriff nowhere to be found, assuming he robbed and left them behind for the loss of his one true love, the party turns their aggression towards the stubborn wizard Kastell for not assisting with the barbarian horde, which ultimately forces him to part ways.

With the death of Taerin and the murder of Saffron the catalyst to these unfortuante events, the party begins to point fingers at Danor and Draug, who must either atone for their actions or face the consequences in the days to come.

With the loss of so many members, will the party deal justice to Danor and Draug, or simply attempt to reclaim what little semblance of trust remains…? Tune in next week for the fallout with… Above the Law: Private Security

so umm.. we found this big ritual book with a mad mage… and i’ve decided to use the extra pages to record our adventures. seems the mage had a half written story going on.. =x

anyway we’re a group of mercenaries in one of the bigger merc groups this side of the world (^^)V , and we’ve been though a lot. our glorious leader is quite demanding too..(x_x)
but his captains seem nice enough so thats not so bad ^^

first we were sent against a biiig swamp monster in the swamp.
and that was kinda scary… the water was cool though, if kinda rich..
some of the other party members said it stank and kept complaining about getting the mud stuck between their toes. maybe it was the leeches.

we had swamp monster for dinner the next few days. i was still full from the water, so i only tried a bit. we then went on to the dungeon ruins!

It’s time again for another exciting installment of our adventures with Above the Law: Private Security

When last we left our heroes they had liberated a group of dwarves from a viscous barbarian horde, leaving many bodies in their wake, some of which belonging to their own party members…blame was laid and alliances were torn, but nevertheless our heroes strive on…

Making their way back to Phlan at a steady pace, the group finds itself once again in the comfort of a now rather crowded Danderly’s Dairy and Ale Tavern. While the others rest and recuperate, Street wastes no time in putting the Dwarves to work passing out flyers and spreading the general word of Danderly’s fine assortment of milks and ales.

Finally settled in the group decides to handle the closing ends of business with Lt. Gorrin, however when they reach the guard house they are startled to find he has been relieved of duty, and is in fact now wanted for treason. Looking for answers, the party meets up with their old friend Lissanna, who sends the party to the Temple where they find Gorrin on house arrest.

The former lieutenant tells the party the High Protector has given the order himself for the vigilante way the old hypocrite dealt with the dwarven fortress, however the seal on the letter stolen from the merchant Ollar seems to be counterfeit. Attempting to glean more information and uncover a deeper plot, the party decides that with the upcoming Fool’s Festival they can take advantage of the opportunity to find audience with the Lord Protector. On their way out of the Temple the party is stopped by a young red haired paladin named Tara, who seems to be quite sheltered as she begins quoting her father’s lessons pertaining to everything being the work of demons…a strange young lady to be sure. Luckily Douriff’s departure seems to have saved this young girl from his inevitable advances, nevertheless she agrees to assist the party with bringing justice and putting an end to the demon threat within all facets of the world.

That evening, disguising themselves as mere entertainers, our heroes breach the royal chambers for an encounter with the vile Lord Protector himself, where they discover their initial assessment of the Lord was far from the actual truth. Seated before them is a flamboyant man who lights up the second he meets Danor’s acquaintance. The disturbing interactions of their initial introduction to the Lord leaves the party in a state of perpetual disbelief as to how this seemingly naive, and very openly gay, man could possibly be behind the growing military endeavors of the city.

When the party all but nails their audition, with the exception of Street and his two-string lute, and after the Lord protector makes an already uncomfortable situation even more unbearable, they are introduced to High Marshal Gryphon. The fair effeminate young man, who is apparently the Lord’s boy-toy, was implicated as the true reason for this entire upheaval by LT Gorrin. Bidding their host farewell Danor slips the High Marshal the forged note which all but exposes Gryphon based on his reaction. A stern stare from the High Marshal follows as the party makes their way out of the Lord Protector’s chambers, discussing how they could have possibly gotten themselves into such a crude situation, knowing they will have to actually perform publicly for the Lord Protector come time for the festival. Danor begins to question whether the 200 Gold retainer will be worth it, if the Lord Protector begins to demand a private audience…

Back at Danderly’s the party is confronted by two separate individuals. One going by the name of Juno, not to be confused with Juno, informs Draug that he is simply keeping an eye on the group by order of High Marshal Gryphon. Chuckling to himself Draug turns to the other visiter who opens with a business opportunity for the newly christened ATL: Private Security firm.

The man introduces himself as an agent for the famed minstrel sensation Devyd, and requests the services of the party to protect the popular musician from the Helliquins, devils from his past thieving ways who seem to continue holding a grudge from years prior. After settling on terms and signing the contract the party takes to resting up for the upcoming festivities.

Two days later with the festival nearly underway, the bulk of the party meets with Devyd as he arrives along side his agent and a brutish dragon born named Eskar. The pompous minstrel bairly acknowledges the party as they escort him to the Silver Unicorn Inn to unpack his things before the opening show. That evening the show seems to be a huge success with the crowd going wild and our heroes valiantly beating and shoving young fan-girls away from encroaching on the stage.

Out of nowhere a flash of light erupts near Devyd and the party is forced to rush their employer to his carriage, narrowly escaping the hysterical crowd which seems to have trampled another performer, a satyr commanding the title of “World’s Worst Minstrel”.

At the Silver Unicorn the party begins questioning the legitimacy of the “Hellequin attack” on Devyd and discovers that it, along with the false need for added security, is nothing but a rouse to hype up Devyd’s act. Feeling used and betrayed, Draug amends the contract in order to gain some additional wealth if the party is to keep the fabrication under wraps. Coming to an agreement our heroes part ways until the next show, leaving Street to answer Tara’s questions of the Unicorn’s waitresses dress, stating in her father’s words to be the dress of demons.

Saturday Sept 22 (pt.2)

Continued from Part one… Fist Full of Demons

The party continues on with the charade throughout the week as the festival continues, a little fire here, an explosion there and the crowds are eating it up. All in all Devyd does put on a hell of a show. However the party comes to an impasse as they too must put on a performance of their own, for none other than the Lord Protector himself.

In preparation for their own performance the party brilliantly discovers a way to exploit Devyd’s fame in order to bring some much needed publicity to Danderly’s. With the glitter glue and production of their costumes in good hands, Street sets off to challenge Devyd to a Lute Duel to be hosted at Danderly’s that very same evening. Devyd’s ego and insecurities are just enough for Street to coax the counterfeit tough guy into a free performance.

However before the duel is resolved, the rest of the party must face the inevitable glee of the pedophiliac Lord Protector. Fully costumed in leather and chains the party begins their circus act of sexual tension.

With Danor as M.C., Draug performing feats of strength, Danderly prancing and tumbling, and Tara putting on a grand display of swordsmanship, the party once again triumphs. The crowd of nobles erupts with applause as Danderly performs one final flip over top of Draug. In an explosion of “Drink at Danderly’s” flyers the entire party bows to the crowd. The Lord Protector, delighted with pleasure, makes his lust for Danor and Draug well known, offering his overflowing “coin purse” as payment for the momentous spectacle. Bowing one final time to the noble lords and ladies and making their way, embarrassingly, past Lissanna, the party rushes back to Danderly’s in hopes of catching Street’s duel with Devyd.

As they arrive Devyd and Street are already standing atop the bar tuning their lutes. With approval from Quinn the bartender, the duel begins…

Devyd lays into his lute with unbridled skills, however Street riffs back with a solo that melts the entire room in a wave of bass. Angered, Devyd slides across the bar with a power chord of damnation, putting an end to Street’s rhythmic groove and winning over the milk and ale crazed crowd. Although Street was ultimately defeated, Danderly’s has never been more lively and the party sets to relieving some tension along side their guests.

Most likely hung over and in need of bathing we find our party scouring the crowd within the Silver Unicorn as Devyd begins his last concert of the festival. The performance begins as usual with young women and a few men rushing towards the stage. However near the end of the final setlist, a patron bursts through the front door yelling “Fire!”

Tara bravely jumps into action along side two of Streets dwarf followers. With the flames out front put to rest, a door behind the main stage swings open as two vicious looking figures rush towards Devyd. Yet before they can penetrate the room, Draug interrupts their advance taking a few arrows in the process. Down on the tavern floor more mysterious patrons begin to brandish blades in a dash to take the stage. Danderly, and Danor catch them off guard with Street aiding in the attackers demise. As Devyd claws and cradles himself around Draug’s legs, the goliath lays waste to the assailant before him as he takes yet another arrow. Able to calm the hysterical minstrel Danor allows Draug enough time to make his way out the door in order to catch up and overcome their fleeing foe.

With the attackers subdued, Danderly and Tara take to scouting the second level of the inn, in search of any additional intruders. However they come upon Devyd’s manager instead, completely nude and engaged in a position Tara can only explain as demonic. Yet something fascinating in her stirs as she sets her gaze to the naked man before her.

Meanwhile in the tavern below, Draug was able to obtain some information of the attackers plans and discovers they are Welcomers under employ of the Helliquins to bring the fool Devyd in for falsely involving the Helliquin organization in his act. Draug and Danor, once again left to their own devises, toy with the possibility of turning over Devyd to the Helliquins for an even greater sum than that which the minstrel had promised them for protection.

It doesn’t take but a glance for the two to agree to these new terms and announce to the rest of the party they will be back shortly. On the way Draug mentions nightmares he believes have been caused by the goo he collected from the demonic frog, and Danor suggests testing it on the disheveled Devyd before handing him over to the Helliquins at the docks. All seems normal as the two “heroes” acquire their reward money, and head back to meet up with the others.

Just then a flash of fire erupts as Devyd screams with maniacal laughter. Four fiery forms erupt on the docks burning Draug as he and Danor race past to safety. The Fiery devils consume the nearby Welcomers as Devil-Devyd and the Helliquin agent access the nearby ship.

Making their way upstairs at the Unicorn Draug and Danor meet up with the party who is engaged in debate with Devyd’s manager. The now half-naked man is irately insinuating that the party is in breach of contract having let the Helliquins take Devyd out from underneath them. As the discussion becomes heated, Street pokes his head in with a man who seems to look exactly like Devyd, and wearing Devyd’s clothing. Apparently Street was able to convince one of the subdued attackers into playing himself off as Devyd in order for the party to save face and maintain the terms of their contractual obligations.

Satisfied the manager pays the party and parts ways. As they begin to leave, Tara ask Draug why she felt so excited inside when she saw the naked man.

Draug simply states “Because of the demon inside you” and turns to walk away.

With their contract at an end and payment in hand the party takes to dividing their spoils over drinks at Danderly’s. Street attempts to “exorcise” the demon within Tara but ultimately leaves her unsatisfied. Draug and Danor take the next few days to find out more of this fiery form which haunted Draug’s nightmares for so long, and discover it to be a manifestation of the demon Tyranthraxus. Guilt stricken and morally beaten, the two begin to drink themselves into suspended animation when they return to Danderly’s hoping their dimwitted action of releasing Tyranthraxus upon Devyd’s body will remain a secret, and not come back to bite them in the ass later on.

With new allies and possible enemies within the court of the Lord Protector, and fiery demons released upon the world at large, our party looks to new horizons as the next chapter awaits in the unraveling tale of Above the Law: Private Security.
